Diabetes baby risks - true or false?
According to an extensive study and research, there is no direct connection between gestational diabetes and a diabetes baby. Your baby will not be born with diabetes. However, your baby may inherit the genes for Diabetes and have a higher risk of obesity and may develop Diabetes in later life.

Let us see why diabetes does not affect the baby as well, if the mother suffers from that infection, why the diabetes baby has nothing to do with gestational diabetes. It is true that, badly managed diabetes hurts the baby. In case you have Gestational Diabetes, your pancreas does work extra time for production of insulin.Surely, the Insulin does not traverse the placenta.
However, glucose and additional nutrients definitely travel via the placenta and reach the baby. Glucose level increases in the body of the baby. Baby pancreas, now make extra insulin, to dissolve the excess glucose available. Glucose is a form of energy. So, as the baby gets more energy, its body tends to grow more.
This additional energy stores in baby’s body as fat. Thus, in this whole process, there is no diabetic infection spreading as such. Therefore, there is no evidence that because of this baby would get the diabetes.Sometimes, a mother has diabetes for a long period. She then gives birth to a child. Here too, there is no transfer of diabetes. However, there is more chance that the baby delivered is diabetic baby, because of the genes it carries.
This baby has a good chance of suffering from Diabetes later in its life. It can happen anytime in that child’s life.Instead worrying about diabetes baby, concentrate on adding proper nutrients to your diet. It is wise for women to eat five to six times a day with small meals. However, there is no connection of diabetes baby and gestational diabetes in mother, obesity of baby is connected to this infection.
More research:The largest study of its kind, the research shows that, risk of obesity in baby rises with the blood sugar level of a pregnant woman. This doubles risk of child getting too fat by the age of 5 or 7 years. This research also showed that, risk of child getting obese significantly reduces, with effectively treating women with Gestational Diabetes. Even researchers, at Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research (CHR) in Portland and Hawaii, analyzed medical records of 9,439 mother-child pairs. There is no mention of a child developing diabetes.
